Player Development

At Northeast Denver Baseball, player development is at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to making sure every athlete grows throughout the season by focusing on age-appropriate skill development tailored to their experience level. Whether a player is picking up a glove for the first time or refining their fundamentals, our goal is to foster confidence, growth, and a lifelong love for the game.

What is SEL (Social Emotional Learning)?

SEL stands for Social and Emotional Learning. That means, it's about helping kids grow into confident, kind, and capable teammates.  Just like learning to swing a bat or throw a ball, SEL takes practice and it’s one of the most important parts of what we teach in tee-ball. It’s about how we show up always; not just for our team, but for ourselves and our opponents.

Tee-Ball (Ages 4-6) - 8 Week Player Progression

Typical Grades: Pre-K to 1st Grade

New Offense and Defense Focus Each Week

Social Emotional Learning Included

Our 8-week Tee-Ball program for ages 4–6 is designed to introduce young athletes—typically in kindergarten and 1st grade—to the fundamentals of baseball in a fun, supportive environment. Each week focuses on a different skill theme, balancing 30 minutes of offensive and defensive instruction with key social-emotional learning (SEL) goals. Players build essential skills like hitting from a tee, running bases, throwing, and fielding, while also learning teamwork, focus, and confidence. The season culminates in a celebration of each player's growth, reinforcing our commitment to age-appropriate development and a positive first experience with the game.

"Coach Pitch" Using Blue Flame Pitching Machine (Ages 6-8) - 8 Week Player Progression

Typical Grades: 2nd and 3rd Grade

New Skill, Application in Practice, ane Game-Prep Each Week

Social Emotional Learning Included

Our 8-Week Coach Pitch Practice Plan is designed for players ages 6–8/9 who are ready to transition beyond the tee and begin learning the foundations of real gameplay. Ideal for 2nd and 3rd graders—with flexibility for advanced 1st graders or 4th graders still developing skills—this progression blends skill development, game awareness, and social-emotional growth. Each week builds on core baseball fundamentals like throwing, hitting, base running, and fielding, while gradually introducing game situations and decision-making. Practices include targeted drills, machine pitch work, scrimmage play, and SEL themes that reinforce teamwork, confidence, and smart gameplay.
